What color backpack should I get my child?

A new school year is upon us! Backpacks are fun and an important part of school. From neon green to red with black trim, there are so many colors to choose from. What color should you get for your child? It is important to choose a backpack that not only meets your child’s needs but also matches their personality and style. Color can greatly affect the mood of a child and influence their learning.  This article will explore different colored backpacks, what they mean, and which one to choose for your child.

Traditional blue backpacks for boys?

Blue backpacks have always been the traditional choice for boys but personally it’s my favorite color. Both my children have lots of blue stuff. The color blue is calming and can reduce blood pressure. If your child is anxious about school, buy them a blue backpack to help reduce their stress.

And princess pink for girls?

In 1918, the Earnshaw’s Infants’ Department magazine claimed the ‘generally accepted rule is pink for the boys and blue for the girls’. It was only in the 1940s did we do the color flip. Pink have been shown to be calming and can lower heart rates. Whether or not you buy a pink backpack for your son depends on many factors. Sadly, even though I hate discrimination, ‘pink is for girls’ is so ingrained in our society that your son might hate the color pink. Even if he didn’t, his peers might make fun of him. My husband is so against Tommy wearing anything pink that I can’t even give him some of Claire’s old pink t-shirts. If I bought Tommy a pink backpack, it would just end up in the recycling bin. It’s pretty hard to find a pink backpack for boys but here’s one:

Do white backpacks get dirty easily?

The color white creates a sense of brightness and purity. But white doesn’t always make people happy. Research suggests that children can become stressed and uneasy when surrounded by a lot of white. More importantly, I would never buy white backpacks for my kids because I don’t have the time to maintain its cleanliness. It will be a ‘grey’ backpack within days. If you have a white backpack, you might be interested in learning how to keep it clean.

Are black backpacks better?

I love black backpacks. Both Adam and I have had a string of black bags. They have a more professional look and is easier to match with any outfit. However, you don’t see many black children’s backpacks around because dark colors like black, gray and brown can elicit negative emotions in children, commonly affecting girls more than boys. Is yellow a good backpack colour?

Now we’re talking. Yellow is an awesome color for a kid’s backpack! The color yellow represents daylight and sunshine, boosting your child’s mood and increasing their productivity in school. Unfortunately, although yellow is such an energetic, happy color, many people find the color too bright. Yellow backpacks, similar to white backpacks, also tend to get dirty easily. How cute is this yellow backpack?

What about green?

Green symbolizes nature and the environment, evoking a sense of calmness. The color can help kids relax and feel safer. A big plus of the green backpack is its ability to look good even when it’s dirty. You could get away with only washing this backpack once a year:

Should boys carry red backpacks?

Even though red is on the same spectrum as pink, community as a whole as no problems with a boy wearing red clothes or carrying a red backpack. Both my kids would go wild for this spiderman backpack:

What color backpack should I get my child?

Owning a backpack boosts your child’s self-confidence and is an easy way for them to cart their things around. When it comes to choosing what color backpack to buy, the answer is really up to your child’s personal preference. Showing them all their options could help them decide what color backpack would work best for them. As a mom, I try to stay away from light colors because they get dirty a lot quicker. Any other color would generally be fine except pink. I wouldn’t buy a pink backpack for my son, not because I think he shouldn’t own pink, but because society isn’t ready for it and his peers certainly wouldn’t be. Being a kid can be tough and the last thing he needs is to be bullied because of a pink backpack.

To wrap up

I hope this article helped shed some light on what color backpack you should get your child. Even though color can affect children, don’t stress too much about it. Kids will be kids. There are many other factors that will play much bigger roles in affecting their mood and personality. For the most part, I found that my kids chose less based on color and more based on the cartoon character that was on the backpack anyway. Color aside, do you know what to look for in a toddler backpack? Make sure it has all these important features.
