June 2020 Challenge Round-up: Reframing my Unhelpful Thoughts

This challenge was even tougher than the last one! Changing your mindset is definitely a thousand times harder than changing a physical habit. But so much more long-lasting and beneficial. For those of you who have no idea what I’m talking about, read about my June Challenge.

What did I learn from this challenge?

I learnt that changing your mindset is tough but it is the cornerstone of changing your life. Making superficial habit changes can only do so much but it’s your internal environment that needs a revamp if you want to make significant changes to your life.

What benefits did I get from this challenge?

I trained my mind to think of a situation from different perspectives, often more helpful ones. Don’t get me wrong. I am far from ‘perfect’ but just the awareness of my thought process and the realization that this is an automatic thought helps me reframe a situation.

As a result, I’ve:

  • Prevented unnecessary accusations and arguments with my husband
  • Felt calmer and more in control of my thoughts
  • Spent less time and energy ruminating on something that wasn’t worth it

Will I continue with this new habit?

YES. Even with only a month of trying, I have already seen some benefits to reframing. I want to continue training myself to be more aware of my thoughts and to reframe unhelpful thoughts as they come up.
