The Bravado! Designs Body Silk Seamless Nursing Bra is one of the top selling nursing bras on Amazon but does it live up to the hype?
My trustee sidekick (sister-in-law) and I tested this bra out and this is what we found:
In a nutshell
The Bravado! Designs Body Silk Seamless Nursing Bra sells so well for a reason; it really does live up to the hype. This soft, wire-free and seamless bra is comfy and stretchy enough to wear throughout pregnancy and breastfeeding.
It didn’t win the Mom’s Choice Award for nothing!
Sizes: XS to XL-FC (full cup)
Band size range: 30 – 46
Cup size range: A to J
Strap style: U-back
It’s perfect for new moms who have sensitive nipples and breast engorgement and can be used as an everyday bra. However, even though this bra caters for women with large breasts, if your boobs are very large, you might find issues with inadequate support and side boob spill.
If that was enough info for you and you’re already sold, check it out on Amazon. If you want to know a lot more, read on.
Bravado! Designs Body Silk Seamless Nursing Bra Review: A deep dive
Who are the testers?
I am breastfeeding my second baby and am a 36D (normally 34C). I got a black bra in size M. My sis-in-law was kind enough to be the other guinea pig and is a size 44F. She chose a cinnamon bra in size 2X.
The main criteria we reviewed were comfort, support, ease of use, sexiness (style) and value-for-money. We figured that covers what most moms look for in a nursing bra.
Disclaimer: We bought the bras to test but did not keep them. Even though it was an excellent bra, I like my bras a bit sexier and already have too many. My SIL didn’t keep hers because she wasn’t breastfeeding but also because of the issues we will talk about below.
An introduction to the Bravado! Designs Body Silk Seamless Nursing Bra
This soft, wire-free and seamless bra is comfy enough to wear during pregnancy and for nursing. It is one of the top-selling nursing bras for everyday use and is a Mom’s Choice Award Winner.
It comes in 14 beautiful colours:
- Lipstick (my favourite)
- Antique White
- Dusted Peony
- Silver Belle
- White blush (2 colours)
- Pink Ice
Sizes range from XS to XL-FC (full cup) catering to women with band sizes 30 to 46 and cup sizes A to J. That’s a pretty good range.
It’s perfect for new moms who have sensitive nipples and breast engorgement. However, even though this bra caters for women with large breasts, if your boobs are very large, you might find issues like inadequate support and side boob spill. I’ll go into more details later.
Is the Bravado! Designs Body Silk Seamless Nursing Bra comfortable?
We gave the bra 5 stars in the comfort department.
I didn’t have high hopes as I’m a fan of natural fabric like cotton and bamboo while this bra was made of 92% nylon and 8% spandex. However, I was pleasantly surprised at how comfortable it was.
While I wouldn’t go so far as to say it feels like I’m wearing nothing (as claimed by some), thanks to the soft fabric, wire-free and seamless design, it’s one of the most comfy bras I’ve tried. And yes, it’s plush enough to sleep in if you want to.
The 4-way stretch fabric basically moulded to my body and stretched with fluctuations in my breast size throughout the day.
My breast skin got itchy and dry post-partum but this bra breathes quite well except on warm, humid days.
It’s stretchy and comfortable enough that you could wear it immediately after having a baby. In fact it’s a bra that you should buy during pregnancy itself (yes it’s that flexible) so you can get the most use out of it.
What about women with large breasts? My SIL agrees it’s very comfortable and the straps don’t dig into your shoulders.
Does the Bravado! Designs Body Silk Seamless Nursing Bra provide good support?
Yes, to an extent. The bra scored 3.5 stars for support. Even though I had no issues with support for my ‘small breasts’, SIL and some other women with larger breasts have found the bra to be not supportive enough.
Having said that, other women with large breasts love the support this bra gives. I guess it boils down to how active you are and how much support you feel comfortable with.
However, the wide band and extra knit-in zones around the cups is probably enough support for most moms, especially for home use.
I also had no issues with the removable foam cups and found that they protected my nipples from showing very well. They would also come in handy to catch breast milk leakages.
Is the Bravado! Designs Body Silk Seamless Nursing Bra easy to use?
The bra got a 4 star rating in this department. I gave it a 5 but SIL rated it a 3.It comes with the usual ‘B’ nursing bra clips that were easy to fasten and unfasten single-handedly. I can only imagine that it will get easier with continued use.
I can easily fold the cup down with one hand and the foam inserts didn’t make it harder. However, SIL found the foam inserts had to be adjusted afterwards which makes it fiddly, especially if you were breastfeeding in public. However, if she removed the inserts, the cups fold down just fine.
Is the Bravado! Designs Body Silk Seamless Nursing Bra sexy?
Feeling sexy is the last thing on any new mom’s mind and this bra does nothing to change that. It’s very functional and supportive but sexy doesn’t come to mind when wearing this bra.
However, it beats most other wireless bras as the moulded foam cup and supportive structure actually made my girls look perky and gave them a nice silhouette under clothes. No uni-boob! Yeay!
SIL wasn’t as keen on the foam inserts, noting that it made her boobs look a bit like ice-cream cones. It looks like they don’t make the foam inserts wide enough to give women with very large breasts a nice silhouette . Again, problem solved by not using the inserts altogether.
We gave it 3 stars for that.
Is the Bravado! Designs Body Silk Seamless Nursing Bra value-for-money?
The price is similar to most other non-budget nursing bras on the market. On the surface, it’s a lot to pay for a bra that you might not use for that long.
However, I’ve had my share of wasting money trying cheap bras that aren’t comfortable and when I finally bit the bullet and bought more expensive nursing bras, they were so comfy that I will never go back to budget bras.
I can’t attest to how long the Bravado Body Silk Bra will last but many other women have said that it machine-washes well and lasts years throughout their breastfeeding relationship. Some moms even continued wearing the bra after breastfeeding because it was so comfy and had magically adapted to their smaller post-nursing boobs (thanks to the 4-way stretch fabric)
So yes, I think that’s 5 stars for value-for-money.
What’s not so good about the Bravado! Designs Body Silk Seamless Nursing Bra
As mentioned before, the removable foam cups were the biggest issue. If you have large breasts, it isn’t really wide enough to give you a flattering shape. The inserts also tend to shift and crease easily when you fold it down to nurse. That’s a few extra steps needed to either remove them before you breastfeed or adjust them after you are done. However, if you decide not to use them altogether when you are breastfeeding (which many women have done), the problem disappears. You can use them again after you’re all done with nursing if you decide to continue using the bra as a regular bra. Another option is to hold them in place with a few little stitches on the inside of the bra.
SIL also found that the side coverage was not adequate, causing side boob spillage.
The cup sizes have also been found to run small (probably why she got side boob spillage) so consider ordering a size up.
To wrap up
This soft, wire-free and seamless bra scores 5 stars for comfort and value-for-money. It’s perfect for new moms and can be used as an everyday bra. However, if your boobs are very large, you might find issues with inadequate support and side boob spill.
Make sure you order from a seller with a fair return policy and order a few different sizes to get the best fit.
I’ve made a lot of effort to be as accurate as possible. But if I’ve written something that doesn’t quite seem right, just let me know and I’ll research it and get it fixed.
