The 11 Best Nursing Bras for Large Breasts

It’s hard finding bras that fit at the best of times. But when my breasts grew 3 cup sizes and fluctuated in size (and shape) multiple times in the day, finding a comfy nursing bra that suited my needs became a nightmare.

After lots of tears and frustration, I can’t say I’ve found the perfect bra but these are my top picks:

What I don’t like about it

  • the removable padding shifts after breastfeeding and need readjusting each time
  • as the cups were not encapsulated, I felt like I had uni-boobs when I wore my t-shirt

  • made from flexible material that will expand with growing boobs
  • cotton-lined inner cups and slings to prevent any irritation to even the most sensitive breasts

What I don’t like about it

  • the horizontal seams on the cup are visible through tight tops
  • on the pricier side

Who is it for?

Moms who are looking for a flexi-wired nursing bra with more support

*Flexi-wired nursing bras are not recommended if your boobs have significant fluctuations in size. Also, never wear a flexi-wired bra to bed!

What I don’t like about it

Sexiest nursing bra: Elomi Molly Stretch Lace Underwire Nursing Bra

Check it out on Amazon

Why I love the Elomi Molly Lace Nursing Bra

  • caters up to a KK cup
  • has encapsulated full cups with side supports to lift and separate my boobs without side and top spillage
  • the structured cups give my boobs a pretty rounded shape instead of  making them look pointy
  • sexy lace at tops of cups are stretchy so they comfortably expand with my boobs
  • moisture-wicking fabric to keep my boobs dry and non-sweaty
  • the full circle internal foam slings provide more support than the usual side slings when breastfeeding
  • the bra looks great in both black and blush

What I don’t like about it

  • on the pricier side, but good quality sexy nursing bras are hard to find
  • the lace can collect lint over time
  • there’s only one problem with moisture-wicking fabric – leaking milk gets wicked through as well! If you’re at risk of leaking, stick on disposable pads
  • I needed to be careful when fiddling with the clasps so as not to damage the lace
  • The material could be thicker to give a bit more support

Who is it for?

Moms with very large boobs (fits up to KK cups) who are looking for a sexy supportive bra

Best pumping bra: Kindred Bravely Sublime Busty Pumping and Nursing Bra

Check it out on Amazon

Why I love the KB Busty Sublime Busty Pumping Bra

  • It’s the only pumping bra I found that was designed specifically for moms with large breasts – F cups and above
  • I can pump and breastfeed at the same time
  • I can wear it all day long
  • Wireless but the wide under-bust band and tight knit provides good support without risk of clogged ducts
  • Made of soft, flexible material that molds to my breasts. It’s even comfy enough to wear to bed.
  • Wide straps that don’t dig into my shoulders
  • Cup padding that I can remove for comfort
  • Full coverage cups so my breasts don’t fall out when I bend over
  • Adjustable straps and band so I can make sure it fits just right.
  • Fits all standard pump flanges for major brands like Spectra, Philips Avent, Medela, Willow, Lansinoh and Freemie.

What I don’t like about it

  • Can feel bulky due to double layers
  • Unfortunately, the inner layer that holds my bottles is not as supportive as I would like
  • Cup padding can move about – just remove them if you don’t need them. The cups are thick enough without padding.
  • Easyclip system featuring 2 clips; one for the pumping layer and one for the nursing layer. It’s a pain when I’m trying to breastfeed a hungry infant and have to undo 2 sets of clips.

Who is it for?

Moms who want to wear their pumping bra all day. However, if you are also breastfeeding in between pumping, it’s not as convenient.

This is my review of the best pumping bras for large breasts.

Best budget nursing bra: Gratlin Plus Size Wire-free Nursing Bra

Check it out on Amazon

Why I love the Gratlin Plus Size Nursing Bra

  • fits up to size 48E
  • made of 100% cotton for extra soft comfort
  • wireless but has a thick under-bust band and extra hook and eye options
  • the 3-part full cups provide good support
  • sturdy, durable material
  • has padded shoulder straps with stretch edges that don’t dig in to my shoulders as much
  • great value-for-money
  • It’s one of the most popular plus-size nursing bras on Amazon with >1000 5-star ratings

What I don’t like about it

  • not stretchy enough for new moms when your breasts are still fluctuating in size
  • unlined so my nipples show through tight tops

Who is it for?

Moms with established breast-feeding looking for a great value-for-money nursing bra

I have large breasts. What features should I look out for when buying a nursing bra?

Comfort and Support

  • Look for nursing bras that have strong, durable fabrics, preferably with extra or layered lining for support
  • The material also has to be stretchy and flexible so your bra can expand when your breasts are full. Test your new bra by taking a very deep breath in. Your bra should still feel comfortable.
  • Cotton-lined cups and soft fabrics are best. You won’t regret it when your nipples are chafed and sore.
  • Make sure the bra cup fits well. When you put your new nursing bra on, check your breasts are fully encased in the cups. When you lean forwards, your breast should not fall out. Also look for wing support to avoid side boobs.
  • Favour wide, adjustable bra straps that can disperse weight. You should be able to run 2 fingers under the straps. When you stand or sit, your shoulders should be drawn back slightly, not pulled forwards.
  • Choose a wide back band as this helps support your breasts and back. You should be able to slip two fingers underneath the band easily. When you lift your arms up your band should not move.
  • Go for wireless bras. But if you feel more supported with an underwire, make sure your nursing bra has flexible wires rather than normal bra wires.
  • Make sure there are wide hook and eye closures. Look for nursing bras with 5-6 rows of hook and eyes to allow for ribcage expansion.

Comfort and support during breastfeeding is so important for moms with large breasts so you don’t run into these common problems.

Allows easy and discreet breastfeeding

  • Look for nursing bras that have drop-down cups so you don’t have to pull your breasts out in public.
  • Even better, look for a nursing bra with an A-frame sling. These are bras with pull-down flaps that only expose your nipple for breastfeeding, keeping your breasts covered and supported while you breastfeed your baby in public.
  • Some bras have cups that can be pulled aside for breastfeeding. These work well at home but not so much in public.

Looks good on you

  • Go for bras with separate cups. Some bras for plus-sized women make you look like you have a uni-boob. This is not a good look. Plus, having your heavy milk-laden breasts squished and pushed together is pretty uncomfortable.
  • Look for nursing bras with padding (or ones that will allow extra padding) to prevent visible milk leaks on your clothes.

To wrap up

The best nursing bra for you would depend on what you need it for. The Kindred Bravely Simply Sublime Nursing Bra is the best overall for its comfort, support and value-for-money. However, there’s plenty of other options depending on your preferences.

I’m really happy to see brands coming out with ‘busty’ options for moms with large breasts. Go for these whenever you can as it’s designed specifically for the plus-sized mom.
